Officer of the Month - February
The Foundation is happy to be able to provide a cash award on behalf of the citizens of the City of Lynchburg to the Officer of the Month: Officer Kirby.
“In calendar year 2023, Officer Kirby’s demonstrated enthusiasm, strong work ethic, and consistent productivity made him stand out as an exceptional officer and team player.
During this time, Officer Kirby made 327 arrests, which was the highest number of arrests effected by any patrol officer for this period. His exceptional work is made possible by his extensive job knowledge and proactive approach. Officer Kirby maintains up-to-date intelligence on current wanted subjects and investigation targets, committing the majority of this information to memory. In addition to this focus, Officer Kirby also devotes a significant amount of time to DUI enforcement, resulting in his recognition as a MADD award recipient in October.
While the above accomplishments are impressive, they are even more astonishing when you factor in that Officer Kirby spent over 10 weeks in 2023 as a field training officer for three new officers. While training and mentoring these officers, he was solely focused on their development and not conducting any enforcement actions of his own.
Officer Kirby has always been a fantastic team player, and he is quick to assist in any capacity that presents itself. He is a very humble officer who never seeks recognition for his efforts. He simply works as hard as he can to make our community safe.
Officer Kirby’s enthusiasm, dedication, and humble approach serve as a great example for all officers to follow. He is a valuable member of the Lynchburg Police Department and an amazing asset to our community.”
The Foundation thanks Officer Kirby for his support for his team and mentoring new officers in the LPD.
