Resources

We are proud to provide resources to the Lynchburg Police Department to help them serve and protect our community.

  • Drone Program

Aerial drones help augment the work performed by law enforcement. The Lynchburg Police Foundation is proud to have purchased five mini drones and two larger drones to support the police department. In addition, the Foundation paid for FAA drone training and licenses for 10 officers.

  • AUTOMATED EXTERNAL DEFIBRILLATOR (AED)

The Lynchburg Police Department’s armored vehicle needed an AED for use during a medical emergency. The Lynchburg Police Foundation purchased the equipment so that it was readily available should someone experience a heart-related issue.

  • NARCAN

The NARCAN Nasal Spray is a potentially lifesaving medication designed to quickly reverse the effects of an opioid overdose. When the medication became available, the Foundation conducted a fundraiser to purchase the spray. That was four years ago. Shortly after, the Virginia Department of Health began supplying the medication to the police department. The Foundation in turn purchased the carrying cases in which the NARCAN is stored. Each police vehicle is equipped with NARCAN.

  • COMMUNITY ACTION TEAM (CAT) TRAILER

The Lynchburg Police Department’s Community Action Team (CAT) works to build relationships and partnerships within the Lynchburg community. To facilitate these efforts, the Lynchburg Police Foundation purchased a CAT trailer that is taken to community-related events.

As part of CAT’s activities, the department hosts events in neighborhoods that include picnics/cookouts. The Foundation provides yearly funding for the purchase of food for these community outings.

What about taxes?

A question we are often asked is why our tax money is not used for specialized equipment. The City of Lynchburg funds the police department in many ways but no matter how much funding is made available, there will always be other needs or opportunities to better our police.

As citizens, we believe that we have an interest in expanding the capabilities of our police to protect and serve by promoting programs that may not always be budgeted for directly by the City.
